DE LIL FISH PROJECT

The De Lil Fish Project was created to honor, preserve, and share the maritime traditions of Gullah Geechee communities through intergenerational engagement, education, and cultural celebration. Over the course of the grant period, the project reached over 300 participants and provided immersive programming focused on traditional fishing practices, environmental stewardship, and cultural heritage.

These sessions offered hands-on learning about Gullah Geechee maritime traditions, including cast net making, boat building, and oral storytelling around local water practices. Students interacted with water workers and artisans to learn about the environmental changes impacting these traditions today.
