INTO THE FURTRE

MISSION

Uplift and Empower emerging culture bearers to carry on the traditions of Gullah Geechee culture into the future

VISION

Utilizing the knowledge and wisdom of our ancestors and elders to build an enduring and sustainable future for Gullah Geechee communities and cultural sites throughout the Coastal South East.

PHILOSOPHY: HOW WE GET TO THE FUTURE

  • Symbol of importance of learning from the past

Gullah Geechee Culture is deeply rooted in traditions. In order to build a future, we must look back to learn lessons from the past.

  • Symbol of cooperation and interdependence

Building a future will require strategic partnerships. All of our work will be done with at least two partners to ensure cooperation is at the center of our work.

  • Symbol of endurance and resourcefulness

Resourcefulness and sustainability will guide us as we acknowledge climate change and sea level rise and its affects on the coastal regions.

  • Symbol of wisdom, creativity, and the complexities of life

Many of our cultural practices are preserved in folk and traditional arts. We seek to preserve and build upon those practices and evolve them into the future.
