8:45am-9:15am: Introduction to VisionIntoArt’s We Were Fridays project and group work
9:30am-11:00am: Presentation on Gullah Geechee traditional herbs and foraging with Mr. Jalen Gordon
11:15am-12:15pm: Tour of York W. Bailey Museum and artist talk with Mr. Johnnie Simmons
12:30pm-2:00pm: Lunch at Emory Campbell Dining Hall provided by Holmes Catering
2:30pm-5:00pm: Indigo discussion and workshop at Emory Campbell Dining Hall with Mr. Maurice Bailey, founder of Sapelo Island’s Save Our Legacy Ourself, and Dr. Nik Heynen, Distinguished Research Professor in UGA’s Department of Geography and Co-Director, UGA’s Cornelia Walker Bailey Program on Land and Agriculture
5:15pm-5:45pm: Work on We Were Fridays project
6:00pm-7:30pm: Dinner at Emory Campbell Dining Hall provided by Holmes Catering

7:00am-8:00am: Breakfast at Emory Campbell Dining Hall
8:15am: Depart for Chapel of Ease. Transportation provided by The Point Transportation
8:30am: Depart Chapel of Ease for Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
9:45am-10:45am: Visit Barnwell Tabby for presentation led by Mr. Thomas Barnwell and Dr. Kim Cavanaugh
10:45am: Depart Barnwell Tabby for Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park
10:45am – 11:45am: Guided tour of Mitchelville Freedom Park led by Mr. Ahmad Ward
11:45am: Depart for Penn Center
1:00pm-3:00pm: Lunch at Emory Campbell Dining Hall, catered by Chef Thomas Baker of Gullah Geechee Cuisine
3:00pm-4:00pm: Presentation by Mr. Ben Johnson, 2025 Community Research Partner
4:15pm-5:45pm: Work on We Were Fridays project
6:00pm-7:30: Dinner at Emory Campbell Dining Hall
Saturday, May 17, 2025
7:00am-8:15am: Breakfast at Emory Campbell Dining Hall
8:30am: Depart for Coastal Expeditions Beaufort Dolphin and History Cruise. Transportation provided by Point Transportation.
8:45am-8:55am: Restroom break
9:00am: Arrive at marina to board boat for coastal expeditions tour
11:00am: Depart downtown Beaufort for Penn Center
11:30am-1:00pm: Lunch at Emory Campbell Dining Hall
1:15pm-3:15pm: Presentation by 2025 Artist-in-Residence, Mr. Victor Ryan Robertson in Emory Campbell Dining Hall We will have first aid kits in each house and take them on our excursions
Security detail will be provided by Proactive Security Services each day. The security shifts will begin at 8:00pm and end at 6:00am. Security guards are unarmed.
3:30pm-5:00pm: Work on We Were Fridays project
5:15pm-6:15pm: Dinner at Emory Campbell Dining Hall
6:30pm-7:30pm: Cherish the Elders, Ancestors, and Heritage Panel at Frissell Community House, which will explore the history and legacies of Penn Center and Saint Helena Island. Panelists include Ms. Saundra Boyd, Mrs. Ervena Faulkner, Mr. Robert Middleton, and Ms. Ifetayo White

1:45pm-3:15pm: Meet at Frissell Community House for presentation by Mr. Cecil Williams, civil rights photographer and founder of the South Carolina Civil Rights Museum
3:30pm-5:30pm: Student presentations of We Were Fridays Project Work
5:30pm-6:00pm: Break
6:00pm-8:30pm: Dinner at Emory Campbell Dining Hall prepared by Chef Thomas Baker of Gullah Geechee Cuisine
